What to Keep in Mind When Designing a Custom Wedding Band

Designing a custom wedding band is a great way to add a little personality to your rings. You, your partner, and the love that you share is truly unique, so shouldn’t your rings reflect that? Custom wedding bands can be paired with a custom engagement ring or worn with an engagement ring that wasn’t custom made. If you’re unsure where to start when it comes to designing a custom wedding band, we have some tips to help get your creativity flowing! A professional jeweler will be able to guide you in the right direction, but these tips will help you to prepare for the consultation so you have a better idea of what you want before walking in. That way, you’ll be able to get the most out of the consultation time! Your wedding band is something you’ll be wearing for years to come, so keep these things in mind to ensure you get a wedding band you truly love!

Height of the Stone

Before you can begin making any design choices, you have to consider how high the main stone on your engagement ring sits. A stone that sits higher will be more versatile to pair with custom band designs. A low sitting stone will limit your band design choices, but that doesn’t mean it won’t look great! Try to stick to a curved or nesting design for your wedding band if the stone on your engagement ring doesn’t have much height.

Band Style

Once you’ve considered how your engagement ring will work with your custom band, it’s time to choose a band style. Some of the most common styles include:

  •       Curved – a curved band is designed to sit perfectly around the band of your engagement ring. The arc, or curve, is subtle and used more for achieving the perfect fit between your rings rather than adding to the aesthetics of the set. Curved bands are a great choice if you want a classic bridal look.
  •       Nesting – a nesting band sits along the edges of your engagement ring. Nesting bands are used to improve the appearance of the engagement ring too. Accent stones are commonly included in a nesting band design to take your engagement ring to the next level once they’re worn together.
  •       Standalone wedding band – if you want something that’s more practical for daily wear, a standalone wedding band is a great choice! These bands feature an infinity design with stones going all the way around. They are sleeker than a traditional engagement ring and wedding band set since it’s all condensed into one ring. You can still throw on the engagement ring for special occasions or even wear it on your other hand!
